FAQ's

Q. Are there advantages to using Franchise Quest, rather than going directly to the franchisors?

A. Absolutely. There are a number of advantages to getting assistance from a professional who knows the inside workings of an industry or issue. Would you want to go to court without a lawyer, or have a medical procedure performed without consultation with a doctor? Most people wouldn’t and that’s why thousands of franchise seekers enjoy the benefit of using a franchise search consultant who can help identify businesses that are closely aligned with their talents, interests, goals and financial requirements.

Q. What will it cost me to use Franchise Quest?

A. Franchise Quest provides one-stop shopping for all your entrepreneurial needs with the advantage of time saving research and business matching performed at no cost to you. Our fees are paid by the franchisor and it does not impact your cost in any way. You will pay the same franchise fee regardless of whether you receive the advantages of our service, or work directly with the franchisor. Federal Trade Commission regulations require the franchisor to charge you the same franchise fee whether you go through us or directly to them.

Q. What type of businesses does Franchise Quest represent?

A. Franchise Quest recruits and matches candidates for many of the country’s top franchises. We have access to a cross-section of hundreds of quality franchisors, distributors and licensed business opportunities-full and part-time, small to large investment, and start-ups to nationally recognized.

Q. Does the Franchise Quest service include any training, advice, or counsel?

A. No. We strive to represent only the highest quality businesses and business offerings are carefully researched before being added to our listings. Franchise Quest strongly recommends that you perform a thorough due diligence and consult with a qualified CPA and attorney (preferably one who is knowledgeable of franchising) prior to making a business purchase decision.

Q. How will Franchise Quest match me with the right business?

A. Our goal is to find a business opportunity that will meet your career, financial and life-style needs. To most effectively do this, we will need to learn from you what those goals and needs are. The following sample questions will help you to crystallize your personal and professional needs and goals prior to starting “the quest”.

- What are your reasons for wanting a business of your own?
- Have you ever owned a business?
- What working days / hours do you want / need?
- Do you need flexible hours?
- Where do you want your business to be located?

- How far from home are you willing to travel to get to your business?
- Would you prefer…office…retail…mobile…light industrial environment?
- Do you want to manage employees?

- How much liquid capital do you have to start a business?
- What is your net worth?
- What are your income requirements…1
st year…2nd year, etc.?
- Will you have partners?
- Do you want a single or multiple unit business?
- How soon do you want your business to open?
- Will you be involved on a full-time or part-time basis?
- Do you have the total support of your spouse / family for buying a business?

These are just a few of the many issues we will discuss during the consultation process. By understanding your specific needs and goals, we will be able to match you with the best opportunities based on that criteria. As franchise search consultants, we will be presenting you various business opportunities, but it is important to remember that you will have to make the decision that is best for you and your family. Therefore, continuously refining the criteria that defines your objectives and the right opportunity is a critical part of “the quest”.

Q. Are there advantages to buying a franchise?

A. There are many advantages, and number 1 is increasing your odds for success. Other advantages franchising offers are experience; training; ongoing support; name recognition; tested sales and marketing systems; site selection; speed and efficiency for start-up; and simplicity of operation. A 1999 study by The United States Chamber of Commerce found that 86% of franchises opened within the last five years were still under the same ownership and 97% of them were still open for business. A study conducted from 1971 to 1997 by the U.S. Department of Commerce showed that during that time less than 5% of franchise businesses were closed each year. Compare that to a U.S. Small Business Administration study conducted from 1978 to 1998, which found that 62% of non-franchised businesses closed within the first 6 years of their opening due to failure, bankruptcy, etc. Additionally, landlords love franchises because of their stable track record, a proven system, and an effective business model. Last year, over 50% of all retail goods and services were sold through franchised businesses. Franchising offers the opportunity to be in business for yourself, but not by yourself.

Q. Do I need specific industry experience to successfully own a franchise?

A. Most franchisors aren’t looking for people with industry experience because they know the business. They want franchisees with business and management skills, not technical expertise. Thus, buying a franchise has proven to be a great vehicle for thousands of people to effectively transition to a new industry.
